Just one month after Barack Hussein Obama’s February conference on extremism, the country’s National Intelligence Director, James Clapper, introduced a revised security assessment that removed Iran and its proxy Hezbollah from the official Terror Threat List. It makes one wonder what it takes to earn terrorist bona fides these days.
That the U.S. is “negotiating” a nuclear treaty with the mad mullahs of Persia might explain this obvious attempt at appeasement, but it wouldn’t be the first time Mr. Obama has happily cozied up to the sworn Islamic enemies of the United States. In fact, it remains the rule, rather than the exception.
The American president has dutifully refrained from ever referring to the barbaric acts of ISIS (IS, ISIL, etc.) as terrorism. Instead he seems to wantonly turn a blind eye to the extermination of infidel Christians and Jews across the Middle East and Africa. Of course, it’s not the first time Muslim Arabs have taken part in a Final Solution, either.
In Egypt, Obama has championed the murderous Muslim Brotherhood, whose own internal manifesto calls for the destruction of the United States and the West. He has armed Islamic gangs in Libya (after toppling their government) and provided material support for the moderate rebels in Syria, as if calling them “moderate” somehow makes them worthy of an alliance with the American People.
At this very moment, a United Nations resolution is currently in the works to officially recognize a sovereign Palestinian state, which of course includes the infamous Hamas, the political party-cum-hardcore terrorist wing of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Given his close personal ties to the PLO for decades, Obama would not only support such a move, he is likely its architect.
In the meantime, tens of millions of U.S. dollars in “humanitarian aid” continue to flow into Palestinian Authority coffers. It is not known how much of that funding gets to the Palestinian people, and how much is actually spent on rockets raining down on their next door neighbors in Israel.
It is instructive to remember that when the political winds shifted sharply in the wake of the 9/11 Islamist terror attacks, then-Senator Obama was quick to stand with the Muslims, just as he promised he would.
Playing the part of apologist, he summed up the horrific slaughter of 3,000 lives on American soil as simply “a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers; an inability to imagine or connect with the humanity and suffering of others.” This, of course, is due to “a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair.”
So according to Doctor Obama, the mass-murdering Islamic head-choppers are simply clinical sociopaths, whose collective condition was involuntarily brought about by the social injustices of Western Civilization. Perhaps the United States should carpet-bomb them with Xanax and Zoloft, and send a little wealth redistribution their way.
It would also be instructive to note that labels matter greatly to this president (see “moderate rebels”). Recall how the “Global War on Terror” was promptly renamed “overseas contingency operations”, only weeks after he took office in 2009. In his view, the War on Terror moniker translated to War on Islam, and we can’t have that.
Yes, words do matter, Mr. President. And so in that time-honored tradition of progressive-liberal wordplay, it would seem that the term “extremism” has a much broader, more inclusive, more politically correct connotation than “terrorism,” a label largely synonymous with violent jihadist groups and ideologies that emanate in Islamic countries. (Hey, if the suicide vest fits…)
What Obama is trying to convey with his “extremism conference” is that extremists come in all shapes and sizes and colors and religions (although today’s terrorists rarely do).
Two weeks prior to the summit, Obama awkwardly tried to drive home the point at the National Prayer Breakfast, where he made a comparative reference to the medieval Catholic inquisitions in the context of the 7 January Islamic massacre at the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo. He also called out Christians for the Crusades (again).
Fair points, perhaps, but only in a selective recounting of history. What happened a thousand years ago hardly justifies the barbaric bloodshed that’s taking place today. That’s one can of worms Obama ought not to open, lest someone remind him that the Prophet Mohammad’s own bloody rampage into Europe occurred some 600 years before the Knights Templar excursion into the Holy Land.
So what then, in Obama’s estimation, are the real extremist threats? It doesn’t take an international conference to figure that one out: American conservatism.
Under the Obama regime, Christians have leapt atop the Department of Homeland Security’s list of potential domestic terrorist threats. His IRS used a political enemies list to thwart citizen non-profit groups from obtaining tax-exempt status. Even the Army War College has been war-gaming against a fictitious, armed TEA Party insurgency.
Memo to White House: Political persecution by federal agencies is no game; it goes by another name: tyranny.
The leftists’ top attack dogs, including Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein, and Nancy Pelosi, have been trying for years now to hang the extremist tag on conservatives. But American Marxist progressives like Bill Ayers, Van Jones, and Valerie Jarrett are not. (Now do you get it?)
In the Age of Obama, we have witnessed countless examples of the federal and state security apparatus issuing internal warnings that effectively demonize American citizens for their participation in the Liberty movement. This red-flagging includes fans of the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, Gadsden flags, and Ron Paul. Oh right, and American military veterans.
A case in point is the 10-month-long controversy between the New York Oath Keepers and the New York State Intelligence Center.
The Oath Keepers is a national group consisting of former and currently serving military members, law enforcement officers, and other first responders. There is also a sizable civilian “associate membership” among its ranks. The New York State Chapter has some 20 county chapters, including one in New York City.
One arm of the Oath Keepers mission is reaching out to others who have also taken Constitutional Oaths, to help further the understanding of this solemn and eternal responsibility. ‘Honor Your Oath’ reads one of their slogans. Indeed, it’s one thing to take an oath, and quite another to keep it.
When they’re not involved in teaching and study groups, Oath Keepers can be found pitching in and helping their local communities with emergency preparedness, including first aid, CPR, and communications training. As we learned in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, it’s critical to have some modicum of self-reliance and self-preservation.
In addition to the many decorated military veterans and peace officers, the Oath Keepers includes other honorable stalwarts of community, such as firefighters, EMT specialists, search and rescue professionals, plus emergency response and disaster relief experts—the kind of self-sacrificing men and women you’d want around when the SHTF.
At least you’d think so, right? Well, not according to our domestic intelligence services, and we use the word “intelligence” loosely here.
Enter the New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC). It’s an “infusion center” that’s part of the Department of Homeland Security, and supervised by the New York State Police. The NYSIC believes that Oath Keepers are a potential threat to law enforcement, and they say so in a bulletin published and distributed last summer.
When pressed for proof of this laughable, yet libelous charge, the NYSIC cited such scholarly sources as the Huffington Post as evidence. The so-called intelligence experts (whose identity is still a mystery) also connected some obscure dots back in time to some nut case and who had attended an Oath Keepers meeting—once. If we’re going to vilify every organization that had in its ranks a whacko or two, the Democratic Party would be Public Enemy Numero Uno.
Leftist darling and Obama comrade Bill Ayers is the former leader of the Weather Underground group that bombed the United States Capitol, Pentagon, and State Department buildings. They also murdered some cops in a Brinks heist intended to fund more violent activities. By 9/11 standards, that sure sounds like the definition of a terrorist organization.
So seriously, who’s the real domestic threat here? Maybe it’s politically driven, amateurish organizations like the NYSIC and Southern Poverty Law Center that are the real danger.
Here’s New York State Oath Keepers president John Wallace recently addressing the controversial New York State Counter Terrorism Bulletin, in which it names the Oath Keepers as a right-wing extremist group and a threat to the police. Mr. Wallace served in the U.S. Army and is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the New York State Police:
